Update since last post
Hey everyone,
I'm sorry I haven't posted in the last little bit there's been a lot of change lately. I finally got a job in animation again. Don't get me wrong I've enjoyed my time working with my parents and my sister at the family business but animation is my passion. I'm working at Cuppa Coffee studios in Toronto and it's a kick butt job! Here's some sketches and other randoms from the past little bit.

random goodies
Lately I've been asked by my parents to do some odd jobs for them. From my dad I was asked to design him a header for his in the works / sort of started vintage Christmas ornament blog. This is the kind of project I love to do! It's retro sorta UPA style work, I tried to mimic the simple colour scheme and stylings of old school wrapping papers and Christmas cards that both my dad and I love. I can't get enough of the simple shading they would do using strictly black and white. As well as the limited colour pallettes the designers would use. Its pure simple design, but its super effective. The other thing I've been asked to do has been some different advertising materials for my parents business. They are wedding and event decorators and their business was in need of a bit of an overhaul. So I chose a new colour for the front of our new location, designed some new business cards, started them a blog, and created the new advertisement for the Wedding Book from our area. Check out the blog www.specialeventsandflowers.blogspot.com to see some of the stuff I was talking about and some of the work my parents as well as myself and my sister do. I love it when my life becomes diverse like this! My areas of interest are so vast so its fun to change gears every now and then.
Enjoy!

Over a year of blogging...
Hello out there. I just realized I've missed my 1st anniversary of being a blogger, woah time flies. Honestly, it feels like it wasn't that long ago that I was graduating from Sheridan and putting my first ever post together. A lot has changed since then. When I look at the past year its been a crazy one. A year with some major highs and serious lows but all in all its been decent, haha! Those of you that are close enough to me will understand. One thing is for sure, this past year has been chock full of learning experiences. One of the largest of those was my time in Sudbury working as a bg painter on a show called Dex Hamilton. What an experience! The show had such nice looking layouts and it was wicked to be able to paint some of them. Here is a sample of a key painting I ended up doing, I was (and still am) pretty happy with the results.
Enjoy

C is for...
The story behind this one is pretty simple. I wanted to paint something and didn't know what, so I asked a friend for some help, "Give me a letter and something that starts with it", to which he replied with nothing. I ended up coming up with "C is for Cadillac" on my own and here's the end result. I hope you all like it as this is my first attempt at painting a car and metallic lettering. The car and "cadillac" logo design are trademark of GM but as I said drawn and painted by me. Enjoy!

Johnny Test
Once upon a time, I had the best summer and I was working on a wicked awesome WB show called "johnny test"! I spent four months from april to september living and working in Halifax NS, where I met and worked with some of the best people I've ever met, it was incredible. My job was working in the design dept. at Collideascope Digital Productions doing clean up and colour styling for props, characters and location. So, in memory of the good times in 'hali', I feel it's time that I pay some sort of tribute to the cool stuff that was being done for the show. I did this painting from one of the many location designs that I cleaned at the studio. Enjoy!

wizard of oz
Well as my current contract is coming to an end, it's time to start refreshing the old portfolio. I decided it was time to get back into doing some stuff that's layout/ painting related and less character driven as this is where my animation job interests lie. What better inspiration for a new painting is there than one of my most favourite films...The wizard of Oz? Love that movie! Hope you like my take on the subject matter. Laters!

Emo
Lately, I've been feeling a little bit lonely and have been a bit emo because of it. So, I decided to revisit my version of a robot character from a friends (Trisha) third year film idea. For whatever reason, he always seemed a little emo to me, letting everyone see his heart. Hope you like him, if I remember correctly his official name is "Bolton"?

Grammar
So apparently, I'm not perfect (duh...). For whatever reason, I can't seem to type using proper grammar. A couple of people have managed to point out this fact and they will be happy to know that I have fixed the errors of my ways. Thanks mom...

inspirations
These two pieces are from about a year ago. As far as artists go one of my biggest inspirations is Mary Blair of Disney fame. I love her work and have tried most of my life to emulate her style. The way she used shape and colour has always amazed me, hopefully these images somewhat pay homage to her stuff.
